Speech Language Pathologist
Amber is a Speech-Language Pathologist from Clinton, MD. She grew up as a military brat and has lived in 2 countries and 4 different states. She received both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Howard University in Washington, DC. Amber currently holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and currently holds state licensure through the South Carolina Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology. She has participated in continuing education with Nancy R. Kaufman, M.A., CCC-SLP, regarding the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol and Talk Tools Oral Placement Therapy. She has worked with a variety of populations and in a variety of settings including: children with severe behavior and emotional needs, geriatrics, charter schools, and pediatric clinics. Amber relocated back to Charleston in February 2017. She is passionate about helping children become successful communicators and enjoys working with families to achieve the greatest potential outcome. She has provided services to children with a variety of diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, phonological disorders, fluency disorders, expressive and receptive language delays, articulation impairments, pragmatic deficits, Downs Syndrome, cleft lip and cleft palate, Cerebral Palsy, and auditory-processing deficits. When she’s not at work, Amber enjoys traveling, cuddling with her puppy, hanging out with her sorority sisters, spending time with family, dancing, and mentoring youth.
Amber is a PROMPT-Trained Speech Language Pathologist and has completed the Introduction to PROMPT Technique Workshop. The PROMPT technique involves using a tactile-kinesthetic approach that includes touch cues to a patient’s articulators (jaw, tongue, lips) to manually guide them through a targeted word, phrase or sentence.
