Valerie Hengemuhle, OTR/L
Valerie was born and raised in New Jersey and has the love of carbs, pizza and Bruce Springsteen to prove it. She graduated from Virginia Tech with Dual Bachelor degree’s in Marketing Management and Communications. Upon, graduation she moved overseas to Switzerland and Kenya to further develop and pursue her passion for nonprofits and sustainable change. It was this experience that pushed her to return to the USA to work at nonprofit special education schools while she attended Kean University for her Master’s degree in Occupational therapy.
Valerie has worked in a variety of pediatric settings during her clinical affiliations including outpatient and school-based, as well as with adults in subacute care, inpatient rehabilitation and day programs. She has a special interest in NDT, feeding and supporting functional independence in the use of power mobility and advanced technology. During a recent trip to Kenya in March 2019, she worked with a resilient young girl following a traumatic brain injury and utilized available resources to create innovative games and therapeutic activities.
Valerie is grateful everyday for the opportunity to work and advocate for the children and families she serves. She believes that nothing is as powerful as a smile and finds joy in the smallest of successes that drives each child’s limitless possibilities. Valerie is also a certified Barre instructor who loves traveling, hiking, concerts and finding new, exciting foods to eat!
