The Melissa and Doug Cutting Fruit Set is fun for all ages, but is recommended for three and up.
Fine Motor/Visual Motor: Work on grasping and bilateral coordination skills while they chop each fruit. Visual manipulation and visual motor skills are used to fit the fruit pieces back together.
Gross Motor: Your child can pick up fruit pieces as they walk up/down stairs in your home or during an obstacle course in the living room!
Sensory: Place the fruit pieces in a sensory bin full of corn kernels, rice, sand, or beans.
Social: Work on turn-taking and joint attention when playing with another child.
Articulation/Speech: Your child will enjoy interacting with this cutting fruit set! Fruits from this set work as a great reinforcement while targeting any speech sound. You can also target sounds in words you use while playing with this set, like /ch/ in “chop”.
Language: You can address requesting, labeling, and commenting with your child as you choose and cut a variety of toy fruits, including a banana, strawberry, and orange. You can address colors, counting, and descriptive terms like “yummy, sweet, sour, or juicy”. Target action words like “chop, eat, taste, and smell”. You can also have your child complete 1-step or multi-step directions as they create their toy fruit snacks.
