Piggy Bank
A play Piggy Bank is great for development in all areas!
Articulation/Speech: Imitate various sounds of animals on the coins, sing along to songs, or use coins as a reinforcer during articulation exercises.
Language: Requesting, colors, naming animals, wh-questions, word imitations, counting, pretend play, turn-taking, following directions, on/off concept, body parts are all ways the Piggy Bank can reinforce language skills.
Fine Motor/Visual Motor: Grasp and release, finger isolation, crossing midline, motor planning, and stacking coins will help develop fine and visual motor milestones.
Sensory: Place coins in a dry sensory bin (rice, sand, beans). The music from the Piggy Bank will enhance auditory stimulation.
Gross Motor: Put coins in an obstacle course, imitate gross motor movements with animals on coins, or practice standing and squatting by placing coins in the pig from a standing position to work on gross motor skills.
