Play-Doh is fun for all ages, but is recommended for two and up. It helps to develop imagination and creativity.
Fine Motor/Visual Motor: Kids can roll it, flatten it, make different shapes, letters, cut into pieces using a plastic knife. It helps to strengthen hand muscles, fine motor coordination, bilateral hand use, pincer grasp (squish small pieces between thumb and fingers. Play-Doh helps to encourage pre-writing/cutting skills and eye hand coordination.
Gross Motor: Kids can work with Play-Doh in a variety of positions- laying on belly, tall or half kneel, rocker/balance board, squatting.
Sensory: Play-Doh is good for calming, tolerating various textures on hands, smell (if you choose to make your own). Provide proprioceptive input (deep pressure) by rolling, squeezing, using cookie cutters
Articulation/Speech: Help children work on initial/ending sounds, blends, help sound out multi-syllable words by squishing finger into Play-Doh as they say it, direction following.
Language: Develop language skills by labeling, describing how it feels, colors, turn taking, counting, letter and shape identification, actions, requesting, listening
