A Potato Head is great for development in all areas!
Articulation/Speech: Have your child imitate various sounds/words while using the potato head as a reinforcer. Have the potato head pretend to imitate sounds with your child.
Language: Requesting, colors, body parts, senses, wh-questions, actions (make the potato jump, fly, run, walk), word imitations, counting, pretend play, turn-taking, and following directions are all important language activities that the Potato Head toy can supplement.
Fine Motor/Visual Motor: Grasp, dexterity, motor planning, depth perception, bilaterial hand coordination, and sequencing are great ways to develop fine and visual motor skills with the Potato Head.
Sensory: Place potato head parts in a dry sensory bin (rice, beans, sand) and have your child play with it there. Have potato head pretend to try new foods, or put potato head parts in play-doh for a different sensory experience.
Gross Motor: To practice gross motor skills, put potato head parts in an obstacle course, or imitate gross motor movements with potato head (jump, walk, run).
