Shape Sorters are great for development in all areas!
Articulation/Speech: Your child can earn shapes to place in the shape sorter after imitating certain sounds or words. Practice speech sounds that are part of the word (i.e. ‘circle’ to target ‘sss’ sound).
Language: Shape sorters can be used to work on requesting, using multiple word phrases, shapes, colors, counting, and more. Hide the shapes around your home and have your child follow directions to find them.
Pragmatics: Turn-taking, joint attention, eye contact.
Fine Motor/Visual Motor: Grasping, turning, flipping, and releasing are all practiced when playing with a shape sorter. Visual motor skills are strengthened by matching shapes to their holes.
Sensory: This shape sorter can be used inside a water or sand table, in a sandbox, or in the bathtub for sensory play.
Gross Motor: Children can carry these up/down stairs or inclines/declines or perform prone to sit over a therapy ball and then place in the container once sitting.
