The Wooden Lacing Apple is great for development in all areas!
Articulation/Speech: The lacing apple is a great reinforcement to give following or within articulation activities. Have the child imitate various words and sounds and earn a turn to lace one part of the apple.
Language: Your child can work on increasing expressive language skills by requesting for the apple, as well as learn concepts such as ‘in, through, out, push, and pull’.
Pragmatics: Turn-taking skills and joint attention.
Fine Motor/Visual Motor: Children develop their fine motor grasping skills as they hold and manipulate the wooden caterpillar. Visual perception and hand-eye coordination are required to aim for a hole and pull the caterpillar out the other side.
Sensory: Try having children complete this activity while lying on the floor on their belly to give deep pressure and tactile input to the body. Or try it in a swing!
Gross Motor: You can use the lacing apple to work on midline control or lacing the apple, then having the child hop, skip or jump in the same pattern as they laced on the apple!
