Core strength is worked on by physical therapists for several reasons. Poor posture can stem from a weak core, which can impact overall gross and fine motor skill development. Posture and proper body mechanics are also core principles for preventing and rehabilitating back and/or neck dysfunction. Back and neck pain generally arise from repetitive activities that put abnormal stress on the back and neck over a prolonged period of time. Postural awareness can be incorporated in most daily activities including sitting upright in a chair, carrying a backpack/bag, and even walking!
