Remote Learning: Take a Seat

With the growing number of children learning remotely via virtual classrooms, many parents and caregivers are having to rethink their kids home work spaces. It is important your child’s seating is best suited to their personal needs to promote good posture and prevent pain.

What is “ideal” seated posture?

  • Hips and knees bent at 90º angles
  • Weight evenly distributed through both hips
  • Feet resting on a flat surface; add support by placing a stool or book under your child’s feet
  • Trunk supported against chair back
  • Screen at eye level and an arms length away

  • Engage core stability by sitting or lying on an exercise physioball
  • To improve posture, do 10 backwards shoulder rolls every 30 minutes

Stay on top of body positions throughout the day to avoid any long term affects. You and your children can set a timer to make sure you move and change positions often. Small reminders like this will make everyone happier as we continue living in a remote learning world.
